St. Lucia, Christian Saint/Martyr, Light Bringer ✨️🕯🌲

St. Lucia (or St. Lucy) is a Christian saint who was killed by the Romans in 304 CE because of her religious beliefs. It is said that St. Lucia took food to persecuted Christians in hiding, wearing candles on her head to light her way so she could have both hands free. In Sweden, this tradition is upheld as the start of the Christmas season. 🎄

St. Lucia’s Day is an important holiday celebrating light during the long, dark winter—especially in Scandinavia, where some regions may see only a few hours of daylight. The holiday is celebrated on December 13, close to the winter solstice, which is the shortest day of the year. (In the Julian calendar system, December 13 was the winter solstice, and the holiday remained on this date after the Gregorian calendar was adopted.)

This Saint Lucia Goddess is about 8" tall and wears a handcrafted crown of preserved juniper and miniature candles. She also carries a basket filled with loaves of bread and a tiny jar of honey. 🥖🍞🍯

Made with floral wire, yarn, wood, preserved juniper, trim, felt, and ribbon.

*For decorative purposes only. Not suitable for play.*
